Get Out of The Way!

Never intimidated!  There's probably bigger idiots than us out there on larger boats.

Here's Danny and I planning our next big adventure.  (May 6, 2001)

Getting First Sunburn of the Year

This was actually the first trip out after the basic certification class.  Beautiful day but the winds were real light.  Didn't tax the sailing skills much.  (May 6, 2001)

 Danny & Krista

Great panorama of San Diego Bay.  A container ship in background is coming out of the port.  The Navy base and aircraft carrier just over Danny's right shoulder.  (May 6, 2001)

Memorial Day - May 28, 2001

Memorial day was overcast the whole day, but the winds were up and sailing was great.  We went out the channel, to the open water, where the winds were steady and fairly strong, but the swells were pretty small.  Worst part was getting caught in the kelp beds. Just off the San Diego coast are some kelp beds that grow right up to the surface.  The rudder & keel hit that, and its just like putting on the brakes.  But, you kind of work your way through them with not a lot of trouble - it's just slow.

Now This Is Real Sailing!

Fourth trip out.  (I only had one beer officer!)

Memorial Day Celebration

It was Memorial Day, so here's Danny 'hoisting' our American flag in honor.  Remember, it's not how big your flag is, it's how you fly it. (Or something like that)

Experts

Notice the sailing gloves.  Our first sailor paraphernalia.  Next, blue blazers with the yacht club emblazoned on it.  Or maybe the Laker logo.

Cruise Director

She packs 3 steamer trunks for an afternoon sailing.  But at least we have plenty of food, clothes, blankets, towels, drinks, cameras – everything we need should we be become stranded on a desert island (with the production crew of Survivor of course).

In the Yacht Club

OK, it's just a balcony overlooking the marina, but still way cool.  Beer number 2 (or was that 3) and a victory cigar.

My sailing motto is "Any day that doesn't involve the Coast Guard was a good day sailing"
