Day 2 - Busy Day The
Indians, Peter Island (White Bay) then Great Harbor
|
|
The Indians
These were some sharp rocks
jutting out of the water just offshore from Norman Island. Some
great snorkeling here.

However, our port engine
would not start when it was time to leave. But, after our first
'distress' call back to Sunsail, a mechanic came out and replaced the
starter solenoid and then we were off.

Then we sailed to White Bay
because it was going to provide some great pictures from it's hills -
which it did. This was actually my 'must see'. However, in our desire to get close to shore, we
'bumped' some rocks on the bottom, and had to anchor out a little
farther than planned, but still close. The other mishap here was
my encounter with sea urchins - you know, the spiny critters with barbs
sticking out of their bodies which hurt like hell.

I was having the crew drop me off from the
dinghy on the small island below in the left picture. I thought
the hill would be great vantage point for taking pictures. Once
the dinghy was close to shore, I hopped out with enthusiasm - right
into a bed of sea urchins. The barbs pierced my dive booties and
I was afraid they would pierce other portions of the body as I
floundered around nearly falling down, screaming profanities, and
hanging onto the dinghy. They backed the dinghy out with me
holding on, trying oh so hard to keep my butt from dragging along the
bottom and becoming a nautical pin cushion. We did get away and I
recovered with most of my dignity intact. And fortunately, I
didn't have to test the strength of my friendships, by asking someone
to pick the stingers out of my stern.

On the back side of the island we found a
rocky coast with some 'blow-hole' type coves. Here's Krista,
myself, and Danny.
